The Cheetah 15K.5 is designed to be the fastest and most reliable Cheetak 15K ever. The 15K RPM spindle speed of the Cheetah 15K.5 delivers 30 percent more IOPs and has more than 20 percent faster response times than 3.5" 10K drives. The 3 Gbit/sec SAS connectivity provides up to 300 Mbyte-per-second throughput and faster sustained transfer rate. Background Media Scan proactively scans the media for potential defects during drive idle time without using system bandwidth. It enables incipient errors to be corrected before data is lost. Equipped with Seagate's Error Correction Code, the Cheetah 15K.5 better maintains performance throughout life of the drive and reduces the probablity of lost data. The Seagate-exclusive Idle Read After Write (IRAW) enhances date protection by verifying-during drive idle time that the data in the drive buffer was properly written.
